Move the loader forward until the upper jaw is over the log, but before the bottom forks would hit when lowered. Start out with the jaw all the way open and the fork tipped down slightly about a 45 degree (or less) angle from flat, but higher than the log. Jaw won't open far enough for big logs to come at it with forks flat on the ground either, also the log just slides across the ground too. Can't just pluck at it from above, have to finesse the thing over a big log.
